Question type: Car Customization

Someone told me BMW made a V12 in a 1992 7 series, not sure how true it is, or even if it would fit. any and all idea's welcome.

For all of the structural weakness in the E36, I would recommend saving your money and going with something a bit newer. If you insist on keeping it, the Chevy small block 350 is a good choice, as there are more aftermarket flywheels and conversion kits available. Putting another old Bimmer motor in this vehicle would require stiffening EVERYTHING. Not to mention reprogramming the ECU. Have fun!

The engine out of a E36 M3 but good luck finding one not in Germany. The V12 is a piece of junk. They took two I6's and bolted them to one crank. No reliability.

The M70 v12 engine was not a very impressive engine. But if you had your heart set on a v12 into and e36 yes it can be done but is very difficult and would require some fabrication skills. Also I personally wouldn't use the m70 I would try to get a s70 engine from a 850csi this was actually and M division engine the car just never got labeled M8. Yes cool swap but by doing such a swap that heavy of a motor would ruin you 50/50 weight balance which makes BMW one of the best handling cars around. The best swap for your car like andrew said would be a m3 engine s50, s52, or even go newer with the s54 from the e46 m3. Hope this helps in your decision on what to do.

Hace seen factory look fitments of both the E39 M62 V8 and of the E39 S62 M5 V8, a bit of fabrication is required, it all depends on how much effort you want to put in.

anything can be made to fit, ive seen a car or two with the v12 in it but thats more for bragging rights than really driving. Find an LS1 and a T56 6spd and throw them in there.
