Swapping engine.

Asked by GuruM1XJ May 17, 2017 at 06:20 PM about the 1994 BMW 3 Series 325i Sedan RWD

Question type: General

Good evening,
I've got an e36 325 coupe, and i wanted to add
more power. Changing the engine was an idea so
would a 1jz engine be a suitable option for a daily
drive? Or what engines exactly would be more
suitable for a daily drive?

A 1jz swap is actually fairly common on E36s. It could be done to make a reliable daily while still being track-ready. It probably won't be the cheapest thing in the world, but it would make one hell of a fun car! Look up tommyfyeah on Youtube. He is actually selling a 1j setup right now for an E36. I'm not sure if it's been sold yet, though. It may be listed on throtl.com.

You should be able to use the 2001 engine in your 2003. I would ask on a website like bimmerfest.com or bimmerforums.com in the E46 section just to be sure. Those guys will know better.
