Radio Code

Asked by Jaferr Oct 23, 2014 at 03:34 PM about the 1997 BMW 3 Series 328i Sedan RWD

Question type: General

Recently replaced battery and when I started my car and tried to turn on the radio I got
a "Code __ __ __ __ __" message.  I found the card that came with the car and the
code is on the card is 62246.  However when I enter the code nothing happens and the
message returns wanting the same inforrmation.  After the third try, I got the "wait
code" message.  I've waited for an hour or so and tried again with the same results.
What am I doing wrong?

Maybe I wasn't clear in the statement! I did wait for over an hour and got the Code __ __ __ __ __ message again and re-entered the code three times and got the Code Wait message again. Someone on one of the blogs suggested that I drop the first number and add the number 1 between the fourth and fifth number. (22416 rather than 62246 which is on the code card.)

Tried the latest suggestion about switching around the number and that didn't work either! I guess I'll have to call a dealer!

I ended up pulling the radio which was amazingly easy. I then called the parts dept. of the local BMW dealer and they were able to give me the code over the phone!
