Interior Lights

Asked by Ismail May 18, 2011 at 03:06 PM about the 1997 BMW 3 Series 328is Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The interior lights go on and off while driving, and won’t completely shut-off after locking. I turn the manual switch to the off position, which is okay in drive, but the under the Glove box compartment lights stay on after car is locked. I open and close the doors and lock and unlock a few times and it finally shuts off.

It appears that the car does not recognize being locked or open. The driver side window keeps running sometimes after it is already completely up. The action stops as soon as the widow is a hair down. Are these two problem related?

Any ideas?

the door contact is the likely problem with the windoe drop occuring to allow the door to open. it may be possible to strip and clean the unit, or it will just require replacement.
