leaking front oil seal. cost and time to replace? 1998 318i Auto

Car has done 300,000 km. Has badly leaking front oil seal. Engine is using oil
4litres/5000km. Lot of piston ring blow by and high crank case pressure.
Car body quite good. Suspension and brakes good.
What does a change over engine cost?
Is it worth doing rings and bearings?
