sorry i can not recommend anybody in nj, but any mechanic that has a scanner that reads BMW can tell you what codes the car has can help. when you have the codes post them, to help you a little bit.

Have your vehicle scanned and noted the code. Even if it is just OBD2. If there are advaced auto parts stores in your area they will usually OBD2 scan your car for no charge. Let me know when you know what the code is

Hi thanks for the reply. I think the code is P0150. It looks like it has something to do with oxygen sensor. Just wondering is it a necessary to get it changed ASAP..? Or does it effect the vehicle in any way if not changed..?

The O2 sensor controls the way you vehicle performs. It will effect the amount of fuel and air mixture you vehicle gets. It can shorten the life of your plugs and cause all sorts of little things to plague your vehicle's performance. It is usually best to change them out ASAP. You have two. One in the exhaust manifold before the cat and one post cat. They usually run between $80 - 120 from sources like FCP Euro (NJ), ECS Tuning (OH), and Bavarian Autosport (NH). There is also Autohaus Arizona for some of the best pricing. Also, be sure to pick up the O2 sensor tool. It makes the job so much easier. Let me know if you need anything else.

Hey thanks for the reply Michael; on FCP Euro (NJ) there are 3 kinds such as : 1) BMW Oxygen Sensor Rear - Bosch 15109 ($61) 2) BMW Oxygen Sensor - Bosch 13477 ($53) 3) AEM UEGO Wideband O2 Sensor - AEM 30-2001 ($88) Which one do u think I should buy..? and is it simple to change i.e DIY .?

It's hard to go wrong with Bosch. Easy to change with a bit of patience and your vehicle on ramps. Again, make sure to get the O2 tool and some anti seize for the threads. Just make sure that you run your sensor wires back in the same way you loosen them. Easy.

Your car has 4 O2 sensors two before the catalytic converts which are te final step in mixture control and two after the catalytic converters which monitor the effectivness of the catalytic converters. A code P0150 is a code refering to the performance forward O2 sensors. The code is related to performance rather than a circuit continuity problem. Before replacing an O2 sensor check this car for air leaks down stream of the Air Mass Meter. It is more common for this vehicle to have an air leak than an O2 sensor failure. The most effiecient why to check for an air leak is to have the intake air system smoke tested. You may have to pay somone to do this but it is cheaper than replacing the wrong parts.
