330ci had 225 hp while the 330i with the performance package carried the 235hp engine Dunno if the performance package was offered on the ci's

Adam is correct but the performance package is offered on the 330 (I had an 03) the easiest way to tell oddly enough look at the seats if there relatively flat it doesn't but if there bolstered on the sides and front it does have the performance package otherwise run your vin through BMW that'll tell ya for sure

The ZHP (Performance Package) was offered in late '03 forward (sedan only), '04 in coupes/conv, and up until the end of the e46 ('06 coupes). It had several unique features: Alcantara suede 3-spoke steering wheel w/ M badge (tho many have been replaced with leather), black headliner (look up- if it's black, you have a ZHP), unique staggered 18" alloys (look at the photo of my car, you'll see them), "Q-bert" aluminum interior trim, unique "m" colors (again, see the photo of my car- Imola Red is unique to the ZHP and M3 e46's), unique front and rear airdams, etc. It was a $4000 option, so if you bought the car new- you'd KNOW if you had it! And that's just the stuff you can see... there's more info at the e46 Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_E46

The ZHP also features a more aggressive rear diff, a 6spd manual standard (otherwise unavailable on the E46 save for the M3), and stiffer suspension settings :)

THe 6-speed manual became standard on the 330i in '03, according the the e46 wiki.

actually the bolstered seats were an option for the sport package not the performance package alone. I have an 03 330Ci sport package and it has bolstered seats and most of the visual add ons for the performance package but mine is just a sport.

E46 is from 99'-05' model years if I remember correctly. That generation of 3 series has a lot of different models & body styles depending on the year. I have a 2001 300ci M-sport ZHP that looks old compared to the 05' models. Of course mine is an odd ball. I bought it for almost nothing not running from a police auction. I knew it had been wrecked cuz whoever had it tried to spray paint a blue door that's been installed. I have the base model front end w\o anywhere for factory fog lights but have the switch inside & the wires hanging. It gets better, my rear bumper is only available on the sedan. Trunk lid was replaced from a junkyard. No spoiler or mounting holes & reverse lights lenses are yellowed but taillights on the fenders aren't. Still has the M- sport wheels as you can see above & the black leather interior I'm told is part of the ZHP package. I've got less than $3k in it so far & I drive the hell out of it. They say a regular 300ci is cpu limited to 128mph. I guess since mine was made in Germany & went through the m division & then the extra ponys from zhp package mine didn't get the 128 limit. I've been pulled over for doing 136mph & here in Dallas some highways have (toll)express lanes with no shoulder for a cop to sit so I do 140 on the express daily. I'm new to BMW's but my beater beemer rocks! I take exit loops at twice everyone else's speed & I fly everywhere. Past a cop doing 80 on the hwy today. Saw him pull out so I new he got me. Did I slow down to let him pull me over. Heck no. I floored it & hit the express lanes going as fast as that old car could do. Never saw him in my mirrors. I updated my wheels w\duplicolor peelable paint(like plastidip)they have high gloss & gloss clear so my wheels are shiny like factory.

High beams can change colors, lights down low change to any color, get 3x as wide when switched to spotlight mode & they strobe
