Should a BMW 330i (2004) with only 80,000 miles need a new engine ?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I took  great care and maintenance of my car.  It did sit for 8 months - took it to the dealer to have it checked out and they said , "bearings, bushings , rods, etc. - would be cheaper to put in a new engine " to the tune of $12,000 !! Am I getting played - it was running fine until it it sat idle for 8 months. Ugh ???
