I am buying the 328i sedan this week and wanted some feedback on the sport package. I was told the big issue is the tires last only about 15k. what is your opinion?

This is a common issue with most new vehicles, tire wear. I would check out www.carsurvey.org for reviews on the 2007, and also Car and Driver magazine or their website.
We dont have the sport pak, so ours is running on the standard 16's. The car has 10 000k on it and we do push it a bit. The tires currently still look factory fresh. So im pretty sure the 17's would still last a fair longer then 15 k.
its not so much that the tires become worn to the point that they don't grip the road by 15k, its more like you start to hear a lot more road noise and the ride becomes a little harsher. frankly, bmw should scrap the whole idea of run flat tires.
If you keep your tires properly inflated, don't knock the alignment out with potholes and curbs, and don't drive like a banshee (or like me!) you'll get more than 15k out of the sport tires. But you might not get more than 25k. The way BMW sets up their cars they prioritze performance over tire life, and do go through tires quicker than your average Honda or Mazda. The price of an awesome handling car. Don't go cheap when you replace them, either...you'll hate yourself if you do...
The sport package goes well beyond wheel size and tire wear. You also have upgraded seats, suspension components, sometimes the steering wheel, exhaust and more. Tire like depends largely on how hard you drive the vehicle. Continentals are usually the rubber of choice from the factory. The rubber is good, but usually set to wear out around 30K.
