A flashing check engine light normally indicates ad sever misfire that will damage the cat. If its making noises as well in the engine this may be a sign of sever failure. Of course this is just a diagnosis without hearing the problem. Be sure to check spark plugs see if they have any oil on them.

One side of the engine does . meaning only 4 spark plugs have oil.
