Sounds like a fuel delivery issue to me, but it very well could be the DISA valve. I don't know much about it, but it's a fairly common problem among 6 cylinder E39s.
Thanks, I forgot to mention that when this happens it stays stuck in gear and when I let off a few seconds later it will shift as long as I slow down a bit . I cant seem to make it go over 4200 rpms. without this problem. See I bought the car with 23k have done all the services and the 100k service and so on. It has almost all freeway miles where I worked and where I lived. No City driving all rural. My problem is I dont know a mechanic I can trust here that even knows Bmw's, so I am going to do the work myself. Im too far away from a real BMW mechanic at this time. Thanks.
So I took it to repair shop because I couldnt find time to repair it myself. The guy told me it needs a new trans. Not fuel pump or filter or anything he could figure out it has no codes. I asked him then why does it drive fine until I punch it to the floor and why only after 4200 or so rpms does it just have issues. The engine runs fine and smooth until then it acts like something is holding it back. He said 4 grand to fix. But I just cant believe thats the problem. Call me stubborn or whatever. the car had all its maintenance done on time I drove most of its life on the freeway to work and home and never beat it.. Wth to do with this older car that is worth maybe 4 grand if it didnt have a problem. ???
i highly doubt its your trans just because someone is certified in any occupation does not know if there answers are even correct focus a bit on your vanos it is your variable timing it may need new seals or an oil change dirty oil can clog up your solenoids for they have there own filter in them all fairly easy fix. I believe your car wouldve went in limp mode if it was trans i drove my 540 for 8 month on limp mode till trans blew but i already had a replacement my 01 530i now if i put throttle down and as i let up slowly it will launch and increase in speed the opposit that it should do & our cars are drive by wire youtube on realigning your throttle to understand a bmw you need to own one first you can lose sleep over an issue and when you get the solution you may feel that you already answer to the fix
