Depending on the condition, options and maintenance, this could be a $6500-9000 vehicle. That's a generalization that usually suits the E39. Personally, I have one and would not take less than $7500 due to minor cosmetic issues.

Another tip is looking at the instant market prices on this site will give you a good indication of what they are selling for on the current market. If you have access to the black book values that can be a good indicatior of what selling price is versus trade. I use this to know how much better my offer is than what a dealer would likely give the seller for their car as trade.
