2003 BMW 525i - Water coming in at the base of the left rear door

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
In a couple of recent hard rain showers as well as going through the car wash, we had water streaming in from the bottom of the left rear door. My dad said that there should be plugs there that may be blocked. We cannot find any drains, however. Does anyone have an idea where drains are to check on them?

Look at the bottom of the door - use a mirror if you have to. There are holes there to let water drain out. They may be clogged with debris or undercoating.

Look up vapor barrier repair on YouTube. The foam barrier behind your door panel becomes unglued over time, allowing water to build up underneath the door between the inner and outer door seals. When this builds up, it begins to overflow into the rear footwells. This is what is happening if you open your rear door and water splashes out onto the ground after a rain. Buy black adhesive and reseal the foam barrier. This allows the water, which does flow into the door cavity as it should, to follow a channel to the proper drain.

There is also a good video on taking off the back door panel. Only takes a couple of minutes and will keep you from damaging any of the electronics or panel itself.
