Question type: Maintenance & Repair

While driving my message came on telling me my car is overheating, I
immediately pulled over and shut the vehicle off and had it towed to my
residence.  I'm not sure if its my thermostat, water pump or censor.  How do I
narrow it down.  I'm not able to take it in to the dealership for repair, due to
limit funds at this time.....Help!

Yeah, hard to have low funds and own a BMW 5 series- if you keep it, I predict your funds are just gonna get lower-

Okay- helpfully- open the hood and check the coolant level- start there- is it low? look for leaks, bad hoses, etc. (good luck)

Thanks, I'll let you all know what the issue was, once resolved. Thanks again!

Is the coolant low? You might want to bleed the system first, as you don't need anything but a screwdriver to do so.
