The CD player stopped working (CD highlight is dark), but the radio works.  Is
there  fuse or another issue I can check?

if the radio work and the single CD doesn't, I would say the mechanism is broken. The fuse would control the whole unit. Pick up a used one on ebay if you want or go aftermarket.

Thanks TDolby. I looked into aftermarket radios; there are many. I then asked a local installer how much it would cost to install one. I was told that a 2008 528xi has a system that is fiber optic and that I needed a $575 interface to convert to any radio, including Blaupunkt, unless it was the exact factory installed model that is currently in the car. Is that true? Doesn't Blaupunkt market systems with the fiber optics necessary to install in a BMW aftermarket? Any direction on where I can find what I need without spending an additional $575?
