If you are referring to the pop out telephone pad.....it is to make calls etc... bluetooth pair your phone to the car....then when your phone is paired and it appears on top of the heads up display, if you pop out the phone pad you can dial a number and hit send, and it will call via the bluetooth connection to your phone.

Get the phone "out"? Push in the rectangle on the dash to pop out the built in keypad. Press iDrive to bottom left (settings). Go to phone - pairing. Enter pin code found in your user's manual. Download btmono to listen thru speakers (sounds awful, but will suffice for podcasts, audio books etc)
