Can the valve covers warp after taking them off I'm asking because I did a valve cover gasket change and the mechanic actually showed me the gap it was like 3 mm.

But prior to that the car it only leaked by 4
spark plugs and it was running fine now it
startles so hard that it turns off and is
leaking horrible all around the valve covers

But before I took the car there it was fine as soon as they took them off they called me and tested them right in front of me can it be possible that it was caused by liberating the pressure once I took them off they warped it is almost a 10 year old engine. That's what I really need to know if it was mechanic error or is it the wear and tear.
No, they would not warp from removal, they would warp from replacing and over tightening them, was they back on the car when tested, when you got there?
They may have been warped from last time someone changed the gasket,s,if they were not on when you got there.
Severely warped valve cover can let un-metered air into the engine causing to run rough, especially at idle. Found that out by not properly installing oil fill cap on a 2006 BMW Z4. 10 year old engine could very possibly have warped valve covers.
