Supercharger clutch

Asked by mtw Jul 09, 2008 at 11:44 PM about the 2005 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class CL 55 AMG

Question type: General

I just bought the 2005 CL55 amg.  I love the car but have 1 issue with it.  It chirps!  Whenever I start off, the supercharger clutch chirps!  The MB mechanic told me this is typical and that MB had never resolved the issue.  He also said that the clutch could be replaced but that MB did not warranty this because they say it is just the noise the clutch makes.  I HATE THAT NOISE!  It sounds like a loose tailpipe and I dont really even have to get on the power to make it happen.  Any suggestions or similar problems???

Mine does the same thing. Really makes people jump in a parking structure. I've asked Fletcher Jones about it a couple of times and I get the same answer you did. ML

I just bought 2005 CL 55 w AMG, V8 kompressor, and mine does the EXACT same. I took mine to Park place in Dallas and they told me the same. That it was "just a noise" and the car runs great. I thought it was a part of the suspension going out.

Same here on a 2005 w/ 58k on it. The chirp is the supercharger clutch kicking in. So when you start off the engine begins to turn the pully belt and then engages the clutch to start the boost pressure, then CHIRP! Then it's all good from there going forward. You just want to keep a feel out for any lag in boost pressure after that. Take Care and good luck with it. Lots of fun.
