Asked by R Sep 05, 2013 at 03:31 AM about the 2001 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML 55 AMG 4MATIC

Question type: General

I know it's a 5.5 347 hp but, I noticed that the W164 AMG 6.3 is considered a M156
engine.  What is mine considered?

The M13 E55 is the 347hp engine used in the M class M/B 1998 to 2002 ML55 AMG. But it's 5.4 liter. Everything else fits perfectly, the year, make model hp everything, it's 5439cc. I guess that can be called a 5.5

thank you guys! Now is it a M13 E55 or, a M113.981?

Ted up there has it. 2000 to 2003 ML55 AMG ... 113.981 (no M), a dead on 97.000mm bore and 92.000mm stroke..a friggin rocket dude. Full 1/4 mile (not the 1000 foot dragstrip used nowadays) in under 13.3 and documented 0 to 60 in 4.90, and claims of 4.55 seconds. The only sad thing is DaimlerChrysler is majority owner of the AMG division...but that can't change the fact that its a Mercedes.

AMG is over in Germany with German employees anyways. Regardless of Daimler owning Benz. Thanks for the info, I just took mine out for a car wash and damn, it's nice to make all four wheels burn out, Nitto directional tires, but, I definitely need to change the exhaust, sounds weak to me. Magnaflow it just may be.

I hate you. Not really of course, just wish it was mine. Did a lot of reading on your car... win the lottery and would consider and AMG. Hopefully the information was what you were seeking and was some help. I saw a reference somewhere, don't remember which website, looked at so many, when there was a brief collaboration between Mercedes and Mitsubishi that didn't quite work, and the Mitsubishi Executives are in their 80's in Japan they expect you to work until you drop dead apparently, and can't help but wonder....an 85 year old Japanese man collaborating with Germany? No surprise the merger fell apart. Ever since Japan lost WWII they decided to go about the same thing another way...economics
