The wrench symbol appears when there is a problem with the car, usually engine or transmission. If it does not appear again, it may have been a momentary glitch in the ECM (Electronic Computer Module). To be safe and sure you will have to pull the code(s) stored in the computer's memory. If the symbol appears again, you should take the car to have it check to avoid any mayor damage.
In my case I have been annoyed at this happening also . Tried the cold re-learn procedure the first time and it worked for 28 miles. In the second case and second time doing the cold learn procedure I left the headlight switch in the off position. So far no wrench light or failure mode. Most have had the tps replaced and this did not cure the issue. Some just cycle the ign switch on and off about 10 times while driving . Just on and off and then on, not restarting the motor. It`s been almost 400 miles and the issue has not surfaced. What does the daylight headlights have to do with triggering the failure mode.? If your experiancing the same thing, try turning off the daytime running lights for testing and report your findings
Yellow wrench light illuminated on my sons 2010 fusion in 10 degree F weather. He filled his tank up with gasoline and the light went off.
I have a 2010 Ford fusion. Had to take the car in to have the passenger air replaced on my way home the car shut off & the battery light came on. Turned the car off & restarted. Made it home ok. The next day I drove it & it felt like it was going to die again. Which it did. This time the wrench light came on. Had to turn it off & restart. It didn't always feel like it wanted to go but i got home ok. What's up with my car.

Was about time for an oil change and took it somewhere other than the dealership. they do an excellent job. however the wrench still comes on and I get the oil change message on start. Does this automatically stop or do they have to reset something?

Mine is a 2016 Fiesta and had gotten an oil change at Jiffy Lube. the oil change needed prompt and the service wrench were still lighting up. I dont know if this was just that they didnt reset it or a glitch. What I did from here and it worked. Turn ignition to second position. This is power on like you can listen to the radio but DO NOT start the car. Press brake and accelerator all the way down together and hold for at least 20 seconds. That seems to have fixed it. Good luck.
I have a 2011 Fusion Hybrid. Car is over 8 years old. I had the orange wrench light appear multiple times. OBD-II reader shows no error codes. Disconnected positive battery cable for 15 minutes. The orange wrench light came on again a couple days later. Pulled and reseated all fuses three times to clean fuse tips and connectors. I have not had the orange wrench light appear in over 8 months.
I have a 2010 Ford Fusion , and whenever I turn my car on and accelerate to hard the wrench light turns on. Sometimes the gas pedal won’t work it’s almost as if it’s in neutral the car will move super slow, you better not be in traffic... other times it drives but your engine/transmission sounds super unstable (sorry I’m not a car guy) ... anybody know why ? Don’t wanna waste money trying to fix it if i don’t know what it is I’m trying to fix
GuruH1YGR- I have a 2010 Ford Fusion as well and my car does the EXACT same thing as yours, I mean EXACT. I don't know why either, but have learned to not pull out in front of anyone or try to accelerate rapidly because I have had the car completely give out and will not "go" ..it just idles really high or if it does go, it goes as if its in first gear and super slow.... But normally I can quickly restart it and most of the time the wrench light will disappear and the are runs fine again? I wish I had the answer because I have now passed my are on to my son in law and he is now experiencing the same issues as well with it... If I find answers on why or what it is, I will update you!
I had the issue where they wrench light came on and the car would only go about 10 or 15 miles an hour. This happens randomly between 500 and 1000 miles apart and happen more frequently until I was unable to start the car and normally. When this happened, I took it to my mechanic and the code was coming up as the throttle body. It said that it was only open 5%. This part was replaced for about $350 with labor and the car is running great again
I have a 2012 Ford Fusion that i just had the oild changed in about a month ago and filled the gas tank yesterday. Its not using oil and has been good til today i went to post office but had forgotten something so came home for that. Shut the car off and when i left i started it ran good then turned the corner and it started running really bad so pulled over and saw the orange wrench light on.. shut it off now what? Im scared to drive it
I have a 2005 Ford 500 every time I hit the brake hard the little wrench comes on and no power nothing I have to put it in park turn it off turn it on and then it goes but it's only what I hit the
I hope this helps someone! I just wanted to post what I did and what worked for me as I was on here searching for answers for the same symptoms. Long story short - I cleaned the throttle body and now my car runs as good as new. There are youtube videos on how to accomplish this easy task. I went to the Auto Store and bought a spray can of CRC Throttle Body & Air Intake Cleaner for $7. Literally unscrewed 2 screws, sprayed the inside of the filthy throttle body and wiped it out. Long story - Auto Mechanics and I could not figure out why my Fusion Hybrid would randomly die in the middle of a drive. The gas engine would take a nap leaving all the work to the electric motor. This would decrease the speed if I was on the highway and would fully drain the battery shortly after. Therefore I would have to pull over to turn the vehicle off to restart the gas engine. After searching for answers I came across lots of people suggesting to replace the throttle body ($130 part) as it is common for it to malfunction. There were some people who this did not help and some who never returned to the forum so I can only assume it worked. I thought, I don't want to spend that kind of money if it's not going to be the for sure fix. I've already had the car in the shop several times and the mechanics could not figure out what was going on because the car would never mess up for them. Then I came across videos of how to clean the throttle body, as apparently it collects a bit of grime and can get stuck in the open or closed position. I thought, why not it looks cheap and easy. On the way to the auto store my car decided to take several more naps. I gladly spent $7 on the cleaner, went home and thoroughly cleaned the filthy part. I did not even have to take the part out, I did not want to jeopardize the gasket so I cleaned it where it sat. Since the cleaning, my car has been running as good as new! No Check Engine light, no Wrench light, no hesitation in the acceleration, no more engine nap times, so no more scary side of the road moments. One of the best parts is that I saved who knows how many dollars by not having a mechanic replace the part for me. Or even buying the part and installing it myself. For me and my family, this worked and we are thankful.
Hello, I purchased a 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid in 2016 with 86k miles on it. In 2017, I had the wrench light come on repeatedly (when this light came on it did not effect the integrity of the vehicle or the way it drove) but I took to Ford Dealer 3 times, they first reset the computer, did something with the transmission, and one other thing. Nothing that they did fixed the issue. I left it alone. The wrench light still continued to come on, testing different things while driving. I have pin pointed it to these conditions: comes on when it is over 98 degrees outside, over an hour drive with the AC running. Now, when the light comes on after about 20-30 miles, I get the Hazard light that tells me to pull over safety and turn off my engine. I pull over turn the car off and starts without issue, then wrench light comes back on in about 10-15 miles. Anyone have any answers for me? I have replaced the fuel pump module relay. The wrench light comes on but did not tell me to stop the engine.
I have a 2016 Ford Fusion Titanium 2.0 Ecoboost... I was driving one day and the Transmission just jerked hard and the RPMs went up so high that I just put the car into neutral and back in drive, then the WRENCH light came on, also note that the Sport mode was also disabled and no paddle shifting. This all happened when I accelerated not hard but moderately to get going to a highway at 55 MPH. So the Symptoms are still there in my car at this time. But when I start the car and put it into Sport Mode and shift just using the Paddle Shift manually, the car has No Faults and NO WRENCH LIGHTS. This is Weird though. Shifts fine with Paddle but in normal Drive there is a problem and the WRENCH LIGHT come on and Reduced Power or at times there is no Acceleration or delayed acceleration. Just started today as of this posting.
I have a 2014 fusion hybrid. I bought it low mileage used and only have 40K miles...but this last nine months I’ve barely driven it so didn’t bother getting the oil changed in April. Won’t run on hybrid battery now, but I have full tank of gas and after a few moments panic the regular gas engine turned on. Hybrid still under warranty. Not sure what in car is on recall...several things are hoping it will cook until I can take it to dealer Tuesday. I’ve never had a issue with the car in the four years I’ve had it. Hopeful this is covered!
I just wanted to come back on here with an update. I had cleaned the electronic throttle body and that worked great for about a year. Car ran great and the wrench light and the check engine light disappeared. Well it came back on a year later, and began having the same issues as before. So I did the same procedure, I went in to clean it out. Only this time the throttle body was still clean. I reset the throttle body and reprogrammed it but the car was still not running right. I had to pull over 4-5 times in a 10 minute drive to the grocery store. I then rerouted to autozone and got the check engine code read and that confirmed that the electronic throttle body was stuck in the closed position. So I bought a new electronic throttle body and a gasket through them for about $140. The part was extremely easy to change out, I just googled videos on how to it. Watch a video on how to get your car to learn how open the throttle body should be during the idle and when its switching gears. It's a simple process that's supposed to be done anytime the battery is disconnected. This really helps with the transition smoothness when it switches between the Gas Engine and the Electric Motor. If you have a rough transition, this could help. Anyway, my car is running good as new again. The check engine light and the wrench light disappeared.
2011 Fusion Hybrid with approx. 75,000 miles. The wrench came on after driving approx. 45 minutes at 75 mph. Would go away when car turned off but would come back on if car started with in 5 or 10 minutes. If left overnight it would come back on at approx 45 minutes of 75 mph. Code could not be read by Ford. Never appeared or seemed to cause a problem as long as we just drove around time but would reoccur when ever we drove for approx. 45 minutes at high speed. We were on a trip and it didn’t seem to affect anything. After return took to Ford dealer who said they would put a “flight tracker” on it and drive on the interstate until the wrench came on. They captured 2 codes (p0a7c, p0a00) in pcm for motor electronics over temp & mect sensor circuit code. Noticed coolant was low in hybrid control module cooling system reservoir. Topped it off and that appears to have solved the problem. They did several checks & 3 trips of appropriate speed and I’ve done one and so far no wrench. They couldn’t find a reason for the coolant to be low though.
With my 2011 Ford Fusion, I was having an issue where the power would noticeably decrease and an orange wrench light would come on. I tried putting my car in neutral, stopping it, and starting it back up, but that didn't fix the issue. So I'd have to pull off to the side of the road. As the car reached closer to an idle, the RPMs would start to fluctuate a lot causing the car to shake. After stopping the car entirely and letting it sit for a few second I could start it back up and the issue would go away. Usually I'd make it a few days without seeing the issue again. No engine code was ever thrown even when I had it checked at Midas for any historical codes. The fix was to replace the throttle body. This was a pretty inexpensive and easy fix even for someone like me who sees and oil change as being challenging to do! Took only 5-10 minutes to replace it after watching a YouTube video. Once I got it replaced, I realized there were other signs of this issue as well. My car had been experiencing times when it would slightly speed up or slow down which I guess was a sign that the throttle body was having trouble maintaining a constant speed.
