There is a sensor at the bottom of tank might be bad. I would first if possible find the connection that wires into harness and unplug and plug it back it. Perhaps that might do a reset but most likely the sensor itself. Good Luck!

WOW, could this be a service bulletin item? My car started throwing the same error and would only take 1/2 gallon of fluid. Usually it takes at least 3/4 of a gallon. Mine started a week ago too.

Same issue here, started a few weeks ago and won't go away. Filled it up, took about 1/4 gallon. 2011 Malibu here

Anyone ever get this fixed? still not working for me. I tried the battery unplug trick. I tried looking into replacing the sensor myself but the reservoir is buried pretty well.

I have a 2015 Malibu and the same thing happened. It's really an easy fix. You can do it without removing the wheel and wheel well liner. Not a lot of room but it's not that hard to reach by laying down and looking at the bottom of the fluid tank. All you need to do is pull the sensor out of the tank. It is held in with a rubber seal. You will get wet if you don't get out of the way. After you remove the thing, just unplug the wire connection and install a new sensor. I purchased my replacement sensor for $13.75 from Amazon. It's about a ten minute job at best.

If your car is still under warranty it is covered. I work at a Chevrolet dealership in the service department and we see this code often. The sensor is replaced free of charge of under warranty.
