2003 Deville Ashtray installation

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

For a 2003 Deville with a in dash ashtray ho do you get the ashtray assembly back into the dashboard. (I have no idea how it got out in the first place) Right now its just hanging by the lighter and light wires. There are two black plastic pieces riveted onto each side that would appear to sit inside the groves in the dash so the ashtray can slide back and forth. The problem is the grooves are not open ended so the plastic guides can't slide in

Most just need to be aligned with the track of its frame (in the dash) and pushed back in (some force may be needed to clear the stops). They are made to come out to empty them.

The actual ashtray is an insert in the tray that can come out for cleaning. The tray is hard wired into the day (light and cigarette lighter) It is not possible to push the guides past the stops.

The ash tray assembly cannot be installed unless you remove the lower housing frame. Normally this happens when the black slide breaks loose from the rivets and falls out. It has to be installed from the back tracks. Do not try to force it in from the front.
