does a 2011 subaru legacy need timing belt replacement

Yes- and get it done ASAP- by someone who knows what they are doing-
at least inspect the belt first.. take off the drivers side belt cover, 3? 10mm bolts. Wipe off areas before sticking your hand against hoses imo. Look for cracking, glazing, etc.

A five year old Subie t-belt is very unlikely to need servicing. If you want to peek at it remove the 10mm upper bolt from the driver's side outer plastic cover; pull the cover's upper side forward. You'll then be able to inspect the upper side for cracks and contamination (both very rare at this age), and see the nice clean teeth running on the inside below. I recommend performing this one minute inspection annually after the 8th year...regardless of mileage. Unless a tensioner fails (they have a small oil-filled shock that can bleed) you'll notice the "normal" delfection if you push down on the belt with your finger too. Don't let a "mechanic" tell you it can't be inspected...you just learned how!
