New Transmission at 60K Miles?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Our mechanic thinks we require a new transmission at only 60K miles. He
wants to refer us to a specialist. The car has a rebuilt title and is probably
worth ~$9500-10,000 fixed. From pricing manufacturer rebuilt transmissions at
local transmission shops the parts/install will be around ~$4600. Do I sell or
repair? Is it truly a full blown trans failure?

I can only rely on your mechanics opinion of the problem. I think your price is more than a little optimistic for a car with a rebuilt title.
