I would think it would, the Subaru Outback is based on the Legacy platform. So, your transmission on the 2011 Outback went out? How many miles do you have when this happened. Also, since your car is a 2011 model, you need to make sure you get the 5EAT and not the CVT.

Ugh, just re-read your post, sorry, I see that you're looking to swap a MANUAL TRANSMISSION to an AUTOMATIC. I'm going to change my answer and say, NO, YOU CANNOT DO THIS. Why not just find another automatic?

Subarubob- hey, did you purchase your car new? Just where were you when the 5 speed electronic automatic transmission (5EAT) unit failed on you? That really surprised me. And, other than that, how do has the 3.6 H6 treated you. I've heard or read that some of these actually burn a little oil or at least that's what Consumer Reports said recently. Is that true? When I looked for a CPO car, I originally wanted the H6 - 3.6 engine, but, after test driving the Four with the CVT, I was fine with that. One of the advantages of the H6 is a lot more power, but, you only have five forward speeds. So, tell me, under what circumstances did this fail and maybe you've got a lot of excessive mileage on your car in just four years. Sounds hard to believe. Maybe you just need a new torque converter. Honestly, I can't see how you would fare better with a manual transmission. I really don't think that the manual is all that good anyway, just my opinion.

Yes, very expensive. Why would you even consider doing this? There's better resale value in automatics.
