on star module
Asked by kevin8462 Jan 18, 2011 at 07:37 AM about the 2011 Buick LaCrosse CXS FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
We just recently purchased a 11 lacrosse cxs, from day one, the unit would not pair
with our phones, after 2.5 days in the dealer, they replaced a on star module and now
the phone will pair, however, now the onstar will not connect for turn by turn or
hands free calling. I think we should have bought a Hyndai or a Kia optima.

I would seriously work more with the dealer. This should be covered by the warranty that comes with every Buick. W also have the same car and I want to be sure you have considered that the OnStar phone features and the pairing of Bluetooth phones with the infotainment system are separate. In other words, you can buy phone minutes with OnStar, then make calls without even having a phone on your person. Then, you can also connect your phone with Bluetooth to your car's infotainment center (the radio) and make calls, which really are making the call with your phone in your pocket/purse. Replacing OnStar seems to be the wrong idea if your phone is not pairing with Bluetooth. Another thought... If you pair more than one phone, only one phone is enabled at a time. Make sure your phone is the enabled one, and not your spouse's phone. Do this by pushing CONFIG, then PHONE. Also, there is a limit of 5 phones that can be paired with your car. Maybe there was 5 already paired (from a previous owner). Clearing these is easy. Again, under CONFIG and PHONE. I bet this is what the dealer did, thus pairing works, but you've discovered a separate problem with NAV and OnStar.
