Transmission/Transfercase

Asked by Damian May 11, 2017 at 04:38 AM about the 2000 Cadillac Escalade 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just recently changed my Transfercase
which had went out. The new one I'm put in
is manual and the one that had been in there
was automatic. Can u tell me why my truck
won't shift past second gear?? Do I need a
new tranny?

The short answer is yes. The locking differential for the transfer case is different for a manual than it is for an automatic. Thats why its not shifting. Was the tranny fluid burnt (smells burnt or is a dark dark pink color)? Were there any metal shavings or flakes in the fluid? If so the entire transmission may need to be rebuilt or replaced. Best of luck!
