Either get the correct alternator or get a conversion plug.

It's is the correct alternator for my car, amperage and pulley size are the same the aftermarket plug is the difference, the extra wire on the 4pin connector is for S which I believe is the exciter, do I nee to run that as an exciter or can I clip it off the plug, alternator is the cs series

All the ones I'm seeing have the 3 than 1 plugs hook up. I wouldn't be cutting and splicing anything at the alternator unless the plug was burned. Take a picture of the plugs you have back to the store. Something isn't right! Hope that helps! Jim

positive , negative and chassis ground. you need to find out what are the wires on both sides to hook up in this case.best to find the proper alternator if possible.
