How do I tell if my 2011 Ford Explorer has a tow package?

My Explorer has a factory installed hitch but I am not sure its the tow package that is rated at 5000 pounds. The dealer who sold it to me used has been useless with info. They sold it with an advertised 'tow package'.

A tow package usually is just a hitch and maybe a heavier radiator and transmission cooler. The hitch rating is for the hitch and not for the car. The actual towing capacity depends on what engine you have and you can find more in your owners manual . A Ford dealer can look up the specs on your Explorer. Page 264 of the 1st printing owners manual lists either a 2000# rating or a 5000# rating depending on the GCWR rating which you can find on the drivers door jamb. Note that for the maximum load, Ford recommends a weight distributing hitch.
Always look on the driver's door jamb for the GCWR (gross combination weight rating). This is the highest weight for combined loaded vehicle and loaded trailer you can safely tow. Post the weight listed for GCWR here and we can help you.

I am starting to think it does not have the tow package. Ask the service department at your local dealer if they can run your VIN number to determine if you have trailer tow package.
What are the weight ratings of the Explorer?
