REPLACING SIDEVIEW MIRROR

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
THE MIRROR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE IS "CLOUDED", DIFFICULT TO SEE ANYTHING. IS IT POSSIBLE TO JUST REPLACE THE MIRROR WITHOUT HAVING TO BUY THE WHOLE THING AND HAVE EVERYTHING DISCONNECTED AND REINSTALLED. I HAVE A 1999 SLS.

I'm not sure what car you own, but if it's a Cadillac, your mirror is probably heated, and change at night with car headlights behind you, with that in mind, if you don't have a professional repair/replace it you might disable these features. If that doesn't bother you, you can go to the auto parts store in your area, and get a replacement glass to either replace the old one or put over the existing one. Either way be sure to wear safety glasses, to avoid getting glass in your eyes, incase of breakage.
Yes, you can replace just the glass. I've done it before on a 2000 SLS, and need to do it again. There are connectors on the back of the glass for heat and dimming. The hard part is reattaching the glass... It is very easy to crack. You can remove the old glass by simply pulling it straight off.
