98 Deville Trunk Pop

30

Asked by Jblack215 Oct 12, 2019 at 03:50 PM about the 1998 Cadillac DeVille Sedan FWD

Question type: General

The gas lid works fine with remote and
on dash. However the trunk button on
dash and on the remote doesn’t work.
I found out there is a clicking in the
trunk when you hit the button. That
tells me there is communication. But
why no operation!?

There are two switches. A top and a bottom that control the motion and provide power to the motor. These switches go bad and can easily be replaced (if you can find one). I had a 93 that went through about 4-5 of them over the years but the last two times the switches took some looking around to find someone that had one.

Does the motor pull the trunk lid down and then stop? Still, check the switch on the bottom side to make sure it is controlling the up and down motion of the catch.

Not sure what switches you talking about. I just see the connector. But the motor as far as trunk closing on its own works perfect.

If you can't replace the switches, go for the whole assembly as Js08016 suggested.
