Coolant temperature at idle

The coolent temperature on my dash reaches
224°F at idle after 20 min. Is this normal?

The northstar motor is self purging. Would there still be air in the system?

And i took out the thermostat and tested it in boiling water. It opens....

You may have the Northstar curse. Head bolts pull out causing leaking head gaskets.

That high temperature reading might just be a false reading from a bad temperature sensor. Take an infrared temperature sensor tool and take a reading off the cooling system, maybe near the thermostat or upper radiator hose.
