Did you ever find out what the cause was in your case?? I have a 1999 Eldorado. I know the cooling fans work however do not run in high speed. Just curious Thanks

4.6 Engine coolant temperature sensors there's 3 of them. You can unplug the easiest 1 you can reach, put a jumper wire in the plug, turn the key to the run position, the fans should turn on. If they turn on that sensor is bad. There is one other sensor not as easy to reach that you can do the same test to, to see if that sensor in is bad, that's 2 sensors on the block that can be tested. The 3rd sensor you should replace when you have to replace your starter because it is located under the intake manifold. If you are not replacing the starter, and the other 2 sensors are good, you have to get new intake manifold gaskets and a sensor, if you have to take all those parts off you might as well replace that sensor. But be sure before you decide, it is that 3rd sensor. Run a straight hot wire to the fans bypassing the relays, make sure that the fans work. Only after you have checked out all the other posiblities, should you replace the 3rd sensor under the intake manifold. The gasket kit alone will cost you $50. Depending on rather or not you have ever replaced your starter, you may want to replace that while you have the intake manifold off, don't use a remanufactured starter unless it comes with a Unlimited Lifetime Warranty. You don't want to have to replace your starter a year later. SUX!!!
