Question type: General

The blower motor in my Fleetwood only works sporadically. Would I need to
replace the motor or is there another issue?

Is the climate control display out? If not, run the temperature up and down from 60 to 90 a few times and note what the blower motor does. It should run through the 4 fan speeds, without shutting off, smoothly. If it doesn't, check the resistor block under the passenger's side of the dashboard near the blower motor. But if the climate control display is not working, fix that first. You can also pull trouble codes for the climate control system from the climate control panel. If you need help doing that let me know. I have a 94 Fleetwood and I literally just ordered a replacement climate control panel earlier today. Mine has been funky for a few months now. Hope that helps! Jim

The climate control display still works, however, the fan wasn't operating when I tried the temperature control. However, the next morning it worked fine. I wasn't able to locate the resistor block. How do you pull trouble codes from the climate control panel? I could use help for that. The fan still operates seemingly at random. I could drive it and have it operate, park the car for a few minutes, re-start the car, no fan. The defroster works whether the fan operates or not. The windscreen usually clears off, but the side windows still stay pretty fogged over unless I roll down the windows. Thanks for your time! Bryan

Hi Bryan, you can pull trouble codes for the different systems of the car using the climate control panel. There are five sections or "pointers" as the shop manual calls them. They are numbered 00 through 04. For the climate control system we're looking for 02 on the climate control display. Here's how to get there. Turn the ignition to the run position but don't start the engine. Turn the climate control system off. Wait a few seconds then press and hold the off and temp up arrow together. When you see 00 on the climate control display release the buttons. 00 is the pointer for the PCM (engine computer). Press the fan speed up button to get 02 on the climate control display. Now press the outside temp button. Numbers will begin coming up on the climate control display. We're only interested in two digit numbers such as 05 or 26 for example. You'll see three digit numbers come up too, ignore them. They're telling you where the temperature door actuator is (warm, cold, or in between) and other information we're not concerned with. If you want to check for trouble codes in other systems you can press the fan up arrow to change pointers. Then the outside temp button to display trouble codes within that pointer. Pointer 01 is the body control module (Cadillac called it the central control module or CCM), 03 is the airbag system, 04 is the antilock brake system and the traction control system. When looking for trouble codes you're only interested in two digit numbers. To exit the diagnostic mode simply turn off the ignition. Let me know what codes you get and we can go from there. Hope that helps! Jim

Hi Jim, Sorry I haven't gotten back with you, but today was the first chance I've had to check out the computer. The only codes to come up were 110 and 126. No two digit codes occurred. Thanks, Bryan
