Oil light problem

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My sisters cadillac occassionally displays an idiot light indicating the engine should be turned off because of an oil problem.  It does not happen all the time, as I have driven the car in an attempt tosee what light is going off.  Checking the oil and it is fine.  I change the oil frequently.  There is no clatter from the engine when it happens, so says sis, so what is the light signaling, low oil or low oil pressure, only occassionally

the oil low indicator which says also stop engine has a sending unit in the oil pan. When it goes bad you will see this happen when you stop fast or brake going downhill. When you restart the engine it clears this and its fine until you do the downhill thing again. You need to have the oil pan removed and replace the sending unit. Luckily the oil pan is on the bottom so you do not have to remove engine to do this.
