My Nissan altima 2.5s won't shift with out
taking foot off the gas slap shift works fine
and it will shift but only at a very high rpm
like 6000. It idles fine although it sounds
like it may have a mild tensioner tick.

It may be a problem with a vacuum modulator or a vacuum leak.
More likely a vacuum leak, the slower the eng the higher the vac. Modulators for shifting are inexpensive and snap change. Usually very smooth, not apt to feel it, just notice RPM change. I have a new rogue, and a 2007 altima, both have high road noise, so you wouldn't be able to hear anything, i have tried. have the hose tested, they pull it loose, plug it into the hose, pump it up and watch leak down, ok if it holds, change it if leaks, i would hire that one done, should be about the min. charge 1 hr.or just have them change both the vac and modulator.
