material fenders made of

Asked by tucktanner Oct 19, 2018 at 04:04 PM about the 1992 Cadillac DeVille Touring Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a crack in the front passenger side of fender on my 1992 Deville. I have
tried to repair it using epoxy and fiberglass cloth and condo, but crack comes
back. Had thought about a plastic welder (local shop has one) but need to
know the material the fender is made of to know if it will work. Can't find
anything about material used.

Not steel. They are made out of either a plastic, PVC or something. There may be steel someplace below, the the surface area is a plastic of some kind and is split from where it angles into the engine area, accross the top of the fender and about an inch toward the wheel well

I owned a '93 DeVille and, to my knowledge, all sheet metal was steel. I doubt if your '92, which was basically the same stamping, is any different and I suspect that your problem was created by some type of body filler used by a previous owner.

You are correct, the 1993 fenders were made with sheet steel. However, the 92 Deville's were not. they are a plastic material, non metal. My question remains, what kind of plastic material were they made of?

Your Answer:

DeVille
