Stereo fuse

Asked by AngelOrozco Jan 11, 2019 at 07:06 PM about the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Crew Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2011 silverado's sterio hasn't worked since I bought it. It
has a Kenwood stereo not the stock stereo. I realized a few
days ago that the reason the stereo wasn't working was
because is was missing it's fuse in the fuse box, so I
bought one and installed it. Now here is the problem:

As soon as I installed the STERIO fuse, my truck wouldn't
start. It won't even crank. Another thing is that the dash
board goes crazy, but as soon as I pull out the fuse, it starts
back up again as if nothing ever happened.

Does anyone know what is going on? Are my stereo and
ignition cables somehow mixed up into one cable?

Thank you.

Your truck was eqipped with a anti theft factory stereo, meaning that you have to have the correct wiring harness with the anti theft box to wire in a aftermarket stereo,it was not installed in your truck when someone replaced it with the one in it,you will have to buy the wiring harness with the box on it for it to work and not shut your truck down.
