Key and/or Key Fob duplicated

Asked by Naners2019 Sep 30, 2018 at 04:54 AM about the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze Eco Sedan FWD

Question type: General

So I was date rapped in May, and the person that did it I know had
access to my keys. I even remember my daughter and I looking for my
second set of keys and could not kind them for about 3 days. All of the
sudden they appeared on the back of my couch "hidden" under some
stuff that happen to be there. Long story short, I think he made a
duplicate key and or key Fob. I had my house re keyed of course,
however I think that SOB is still getting in my car. I feel like I am losing
my mind. With all of that being said I have a few questions; !st is there a
way to see how many keys are programmed to my car, 2nd can I
reprogram the key and key fob totally. So if he does have one it will no
longer work for my car and the ones I have will or do I have to get my
car re keyed as in new ignition and door lock. Any info would be great I
am tired of living a paranoid freak and just want my life back.

Yes any automotive locksmith can help you with this. Yes they can see how many keys are programmed to your car. They can also remove any and all cars so that his keys will no longer work with your car. However if he has the actual metal key part cut he can still physically get into the car although it will set off the alarm if you have alarm in your car. He also can't start the car. If he has physical key it's best to at least re-key the car doors so he can't get in. You don't have to re-key the ignition but then you would have have to have an carry two keys one for the door and one for the ignition. This will be cheaper than having everything changed bu less convenient. If not much difference in cost then change the ignition as well. I hope you reported the guy for the assault on you to law enforcement. Wishing you the best and hope everything works out.

I would avoid the locksmith route and take it to the Chevy dealership.

Yes I am certain that he had my keys for at least 3 days, as my daughter and I search this house for for my spare set of keys and could not find them and then they just appeared out of then air. As I think he was in my apartment after he drugged me and after to return my keys and hack into my internet. Yes this has been reported to the police and now its just a waiting game. So he is free to roam the streets. With that being said I think he accesses my car. Maybe not, but this I know I am tired of being/living paranoid. I just want our lives back. I will damned if I am going to let this SOB win and right now he is winning because I live in paranoia. So I either need to ease my mind or confirm my thoughts. Thank you everyone for your input and I will be going to a nearby Locksmith today and see if they will just confirm number of keys programmed to my car for free given the situation I am in and if they won't I will try Chevy dealer and see if they will confirm for free. Last resort I will pay to have it done for at least peace of mind. Keep you posted on the progress. Thank you again everyone, your wisdom is very much appreciated!
