Check engine oil level. Hard to diagnose without actually listening to the noise. It could be worn crank shaft, piston rods or lifters. How many miles on the car and are oil changes been done regularly

I dont' have much of a history of the car. I've had it about 7 months. Oil level is normal, clean, but was burning oil pretty heavy - about a quart every 1,000 miles. sound started two days ago regularly, but would make a similar sound not as loud before I realized I needed to add oil, and before the oil light came on. The car has 143,000 miles on it. Original engine, trans.
