A rebuilt is the way to go if the vehicle is in excellent condition. be sure to use synthetic oil to prevent sludge and replace timing chain next 100 k mi. @ $2000, you have to keep it forever to make it worth it, and other problems are likely with a 10 yo. vehicle. It may make more sense to salvage it, and find a used '05 or '06 to replace it.
