What are the steps needed to replace the CPU in a 2004 GTC Chrysler Convertible?

Asked by Doug_in_NOLA Oct 05, 2016 at 11:48 AM about the 2004 Chrysler Sebring GTC Convertible FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Not finding a mechanic willing to do it and wondering if this is something one can do on their own.  Any help is greatly appreciated!  Thanks for your time!

Vehicle was diagnosed with a 601 error code. Was able to get a quote of $989 where shop would obtain the computer from a dealer. If I were to bring in my own replacement, found here http://store.allcomputerresources.com/20chsepcmecm4.html , they will charge $200 to install. The website requires the VIN # and mileage so that they can flash it to a specific vehicle. Not sure if it will be the same flash as if straight from the dealer but from some online reviews I read on the BBB were not that great. Sounds like attempting to save the 600 bucks might be a bad long term decision. hmmmmmm decisions decisions Thanks again for your inputs! I am not sure how difficult it is to actually remove the old unit after disconnecting the battery. I searched youtube but could not find my exact vehicle make/model/year.
