and sometimes when I am at a full stop at a light or corner and when I
depress the gas pedal it sometimes doesn't respond, so I put it in neutral and
tap the gas pedal and when she winds down I put it back in gear and then I
can accelerate. Is this a problem with the fuel pump?

The check engine light should be on, so have the vehicle scanned for codes. No it is not a fuel issue. Possible Throttle Positioning Sensor, or a problem with the gas pedal itself.
