First get the computer scanned for codes the check engine light is on and has stored codes that indicate it has some problems and needs help. Lots of things can cause it to run hot, Water pump, Thermostat, Cooling fans out not working, Cooling fan sensors bad, Engine temp sensor bad, Low coolant level, Cats, low oil level, Radiator clogged up, Coolant passage ways clogged, running rich, Head gaskets bad, Intake gaskets bad, leaks, heater core leaking,

Has coolant top hose is bad I'm buying this car for 700 the guy had a guy spray sealant on top hose due to it having. A emi light is on also thank u for your help so far wonder what that means I never had a bmw b4

Top hose was leaking he had a guy put sealant in it but It still overheats and goes slow on street the car starts up nice and powerful it's jus once you get on street it will only go 10 -15 mph and he told me it would shut off if he kept driving it so we had to go back to his driveway we only went around the corner

If he put head gasket leak sealant from the auto parts parts store to seal a leak in a hose or head that stuff has so much junk in it to clog the coolant passages ways up in the motor and radiator and thermostat that it is no good not even for a parts engine stay away its no good.

It might be topping out at 10-15 MPH because it's in limp mode. I wouldn't trust a word this guy says, this motor sounds like it's borderline to being blown. Either take it to a trusted mechanic for an evaluation or walk away right now. BMWs are not cheap or easy to fix.
