Why does my car attempt to move but not roll?

Asked by Pipe Mar 31, 2021 at 09:58 PM about the 2003 BMW 3 Series 325Ci Convertible RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have the same problem of my rear wheels not rolling, even when lifted. Mine is
a 2003 bmw 325ci manual transmission too. But I let my car sit over winter
outside for six months without driving. I tried driving today and starts up fine but
can't roll forward or backward. Attempts to move but seems liked the axel is
locked. What could possibly happen to a car like this by just being parked for six
months?

Brake pads may be rusted to rotors and holding the car in place. That happens to my boat trailer brakes and will especially happen if the pads are metallic.

Yup, brake rotors and pads are rusted not allowing the wheels to turn. Have the car towed to a shop so they can replace and or turn down the rotors for you. If you are going to store the vehicle outside in the winter you have to drive it occasionally.
