Broken ignition switch

Asked by Ram_1264 Jan 12, 2017 at 05:22 PM about the 2004 Chrysler Sebring Limited Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Someone attempted to steal my car by sticking a
screwdriver in the ignition. I now cannot put the
key in the ignition to even get it started... so my
question is, how do I replace the ignition without
being able to put the key in the ignition... that
seems to be the only way to pop the ignition out
when replacing it. I'm being instructed to put the
ignition switch into the on position...without being
able to put the key in the hole, it's impossible to do
so. What's the easiest way to change my ignition
without actually having to use the key. Thank u

May want to call a lock smith. But on You Tube there are different videos on how to do this. I had to do this on a Pontiac, ended up drill out the lock in order to replace. Then the key is probably going to need programing, probably have to get a new lock and key from the dealer so it can be programed.
