Leaking water into back seat floor of 2004 Mustang convertible
My pristine 2004 Mustang Convertible is rust-free and well-maintained over it's
life. About 1 month ago, water started to pool behind the from passenger seat
on the floor, enough to puddle on the rug. It too over a week and several
attacks with the Shop Vac for it to dry. This happens after it rains, but the top
is sound , the water is clear and odourless. Are their roof gutter or door drains
that could be plugged? No visible rust on underbody. Is there a fix? help!!
I have a 2007 Mustang GT and ran into the same problem a couple of years ago. Check to see if the drain for your AC (or Evaporator) is clean. Mine had some junk in it, so I had someone clean it using compressed air. That did the trick. Took a week to dry it out completely. Fortunately, I caught it in time and mold didn't have a chance to take over. Hope this helps.
Easy fix...The problem is your rain gutters flaps on the convertible. When you put the top down sometimes it pushes the flaps on the Inside of the door well causing it to pour inside of your car inside of the gutter. Remove backseat and look at the sidewall. There are 2 pins that removes the bottom part of your back seat. If you take a hose and run Water down the roof you can see where the water is pouring in through the side wall. Follow the leak and you can push the gutter back and place easily and the problem is fixed.
There are small holes in the steel under the carpet in the rear floor area. if the drain channels are plugged up, water can be forced to exit the channels and instead of going under the fender to the outside, the seep through the holes and inside the car. Pull up the carpet and you can seal these holes with epoxy. Also have the drain channels cleared out.
