OK, I have been working on a problem where the cover (boot) would retract and the system would stop. I checked out the switch on the down position ( mounted under side of trunk) and the switch was ok. After spending a lot of time, I found a broken wire ( green with red tracer) coming from that down position switch. The wire harness goes up the right arm ( for the trunk) and at the top makes a sharp bend. This is were I found the broken wire ( green with red tracer). You will have to remove the tape and the mesh. This problem started out intermittent and finally quit with the trunk up and the cover in the down position. I hope this helps . My 2008 had a trunk closing problem . Whether the top was being put down or put up the trunk would not close afterwards. Going through all the connections to make sure there was no wires pinched or anything broken or loose, I decided to pull the manual trunk open handle. The bottom of the trunk popped out and the trunk was suspended by the two side mounts . I pushed the trunk back into the lock position and tried the “ top “ button . It worked !! The trunk closed . Since doing this everything’s worked fine and I have had no other problems for about two weeks even the dashboard warning light “ top in operation “ has not been visible . I’m not sure if this is a permanent fix but it work for me.

I had this same message on my 2010 sebring (convertible malfunction) my roof is up but my windows were not full up there was a space in between the front and back window and the roof will not go down. I took it to Chrysler and they told me I need header latch motor, header latch and latch switch which is $965 for the parts and $569 labour cost.

One of my switches broke off not allowing me to put the top up or down so I just placed a piece of plastic in the hole to keep the switch pressed and it works now.. I keep the plastic in place at all times .

I have a 2008 Sebring and for the last couple of years the top has not always wanted to go back up. I would have to hit the button multiple times or hold it for a bit. Sometimes hitting the down button would get it activated. I put a new battery in this year and it worked perfect not issues the first time we put it down and back up. Second time we put it down and went to put it back up we got convertible top malfunction. Will not go back up. Top has been down all summer and with winter coming soon I really would like to get it closed. Any suggestions? I tried the switch that was mention in earlier comments but only found one switch. Comment made it sound like there is 2? Where is the other located? truck closes just fine, and the top goes down great, just wont go back up.

Mine stopped working and i worried about it all night.. It was indicating the cargo cover was not secured. I didn't know there was a little plastic red button in one of the slots where the prongs on the cover need to fit. I made sure that the prong was pushing that red button in, and now it works great!
