Why won't my 2004 Chrysler Sebring Convertible start occassionally?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Sporadically, my 2004 Chrysler Sebring Convertible won't start. The
battery is good and all of my accessories work. But I just get a clicking
when I turn the key. Typically, within a few tries it will fire up; today, it didn't
for about 10 minutes, but then worked fine. I thought it might be my
ignition switch and thought I'd jerk the wheel to see if that would help. But,
my steering wheel doesn't lock like most cars do when the ignition is off. I
assume the problem is the ignition switch or starter. How do I tell which it
is? Also, is there a problem reflected by my steering wheel not locking
when there is no key in the ignition?

The clicking is in the starter. May have bad connections that need cleaning and tightening mainly at the battery, or then it would be in the starter.

Thanks, Rowefast. It may have nothing to do with the problem, but shouldn't my steering wheel lock when the key isn't in ignition?

Ya it should, it could be just the key cylinder, or you would have to take the steering wheel off and tear down to the problem.
