Something wrong with 4x4.

Asked by Nater87 Dec 14, 2013 at 12:52 PM about the 2000 Dodge Durango Sport 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A few weeks ago the linkage rod came right off so I went underneath and an hooked it
back up. 4x4 was working good again. Now, when I go into low or high the light does not
go on in my dash. But, the 4x4 is working but is making a noise and is creating an odd
smell. 2wd works perfectly and no smell at all. It is a 2000 dodge durango sport and I
don't think the 4x4 had been used in a while. Any advice to what I could do would be
greatly appreciated due to winter conditions I would like to solve this problem before it
becomes a bigger problem and also to drive safer in the snow thanks for your time

Maybe your transfer case needs to serviced along with the difs. If it is low on fluid check if it is leaking and take care of that. Maybe the bulb in the dash for 4wd is out or the sensor the lights it up, if the light comes on when you turn your ignition key to on it could be the sensor on your T-case or next to the lever, i have the knob in the dash so I´m not sure where it is.
